Block Printing

Block printing is an traditional Indian art form with a rich history spanning thousands of years, handed down through generations. Master artisans meticulously carve wooden stamps to create intricate motifs,

Once carved, these wooden stamps are dipped in dyes and pressed onto fabric, leaving behind stunning impressions. The stamps are placed in specific patterns to create beautiful designs.  The precision required for these blocks to fit seamlessly together is truly awe-inspiring. The block patterns are inspired by nature and local flora and fauna of the region.

The process is deeply rooted in nature, using wooden blocks, azo-free dyes, and luxurious cotton fabrics that echo our connection to the Earth. Visiting a block printing unit in an Indian village is a sensory experience, where you can smell the earth and feel its presence.

One of the highlights of this project for me is exploring bustling bazaars with winding streets filled with fabrics, colors, and patterns. I relish handpicking prints that resonate with me, each one telling its own unique story.

Authentic Defects

The manual nature of block printing requires each block to be pressed onto the fabric repeatedly to achieve the complete design. However, this hands-on process creates natural variation and irregularities in the pattern and . These imperfections contribute to the uniqueness and authenticity of block print designs, ensuring that no two pieces are identical. Each print carries the distinct impression of the artist and embodies the emotions behind its creation.

We are thrilled to delve into this rich art form through the Paisley Affair collection.
